The Ford Team overcame poor soil conditions and high water levels to complete a new, 200-foot retaining wall along the third base side of Frame Park, which included removal of an existing four-foot-high retaining wall. The project features a ten-foot wide sidewalk, which provides an elevated viewing area. To add depth and visual interest, baseball bat and ball motifs were cast into the concrete structure. Noise control was critical to minimize disruptions to park activities. The schedule was strict, as the contract stipulated liquidated damages of $500/day for late work. Despite these challenges and extreme heat, Ford Construction completed the work ahead of schedule.
“The Projects of Distinction provides a great opportunity for merit construction firms to demonstrate breadth of skills and craftsmanship,” not to mention overall commitment to building safely, on time and on budget,” said John Mielke, president of Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. “The level of professional performance and ability to overcome challenges are amazing.”
The diverse submissions were evaluated by 17 judges who were considering the following set of criteria:
- Safety
- Craftsmanship
- Execution & Coordination
- Budgeting
- Scheduling
- Difficult & Unusual Challenges
- Owner Satisfaction
- Overall Distinctiveness
Ford is honored to have Frame Park selected as one of the 54 award winning projects. Thank you ABC of Wisconsin!
